AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
From new automotive supplier to a certified quality management system
Requirements
A family-owned company with around 450 employees received contracts from European vehicle manufacturers to develop and manufacture charging cables and vehicle inlets for electric vehicles. The company had no previous experience of the automotive industry's specific quality requirements and needed certification to the then-current ISO/TS 16949.
Structured work
First, the business and the gap between existing ways of working and automotive requirements were analysed. A clear plan was then developed together with management and process owners.
The processes were developed with the organisation, not for the organisation. This created understanding and acceptance of the new ways of working. Implementation then proceeded step by step, with clear responsibilities, follow-up and support where needed.
Success
Certification was completed within the agreed time frame – with only one minor nonconformity.
